The Crystal Empire, prologue

The day began like any other in Canterlot Castle. After the Sun-Raising Ceremony was completed, Princess Celestia settled down upon her throne to begin sorting through various petitions and proclamations which required her royal attention.

She had scarcely begun, however, when a member of the Royal Guard burst into the room. "News from Northern Equestria! --uh, Your Highness," he added hastily, bowing and removing his helm.

Celestia set the stack of papers aside. "Yes?"

"I am simply to tell you," said the guard, "that 'it' has returned."

Celestia gasped. Northern Equestria, on this day... 'it' could only be one thing. "Find Princess Cadance and Shining Armor," she commanded her royal attendants.

"Yes, Your Highness."

As the guards galloped out of the room, Celestia produced a quill and parchment to begin writing a very special letter. My Dearest Twilight, you must come to Canterlot immediately...

The Crystal Empire, part 2

Princess Luna frowns at her older sister. "Are you sure you don't want me to go as well?"

"Yes. Princess Cadance and Shining Armor are already there. The others will be joining them soon."

"The Empire's magic is powerful," Luna murmurs. "It cannot fall again, my Sister."

"She will succeed at her task," Celestia reassures her. "And when she does, we'll know that she is that much closer to being ready."
